Sammy Gyamfi dismisses claim that Goldbod will promote galamsey

Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed concerns that the establishment of Goldbod will promote illegal mining.

His response comes after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin suggested that the new gold-buying entity could create opportunities for illegal miners.

Gyamfi, however, insists that Goldbod will strictly engage with licensed small-scale miners, helping to sanitize the sector rather than enabling unlawful activities. He assured that unregistered miners will be excluded from the system, and any smuggling attempts will be firmly dealt with.

While the Minority has raised concerns, Gyamfi noted that both sides of Parliament largely support the bill, with only minor amendments proposed to enhance its effectiveness. The bill is expected to be passed soon.
