Sammy Gyamfi must be punished for us to take Mahama seriously – Effah Dartey

Captain Nkrabea Effah Dartey (Rtd), a private lawyer and politician, is calling for action against Sammy Gyamfi. Gyamfi is the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He recently gave a dollar gift to Nana Agradaa, a controversial priestess turned pastor.

Dartey believes Gyamfi's gesture was inappropriate. In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said Gyamfi seems to be testing President John Mahama. He wants to see if the President will enforce the Code of Conduct for appointees.

Dartey argues that an example must be made of Gyamfi. This would deter other appointees and Ghanaians from similar actions. He stated, “Sammy Gyamfi wants to test the President on the Code of Conduct.”

He added that everyone knows Gyamfi's actions are unacceptable. Therefore, he believes the President should punish him as an example.

However, Dartey doubts any sanctions will occur due to Gyamfi's importance in the NDC. He questioned whether the President would take action against him. If not, it would suggest that the Code of Conduct is ineffective.

His comments follow backlash over a viral video showing Gyamfi gifting dollars publicly to Agradaa. She claimed it was $800 for fuel after her request.

Despite Gyamfi's apology, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has summoned him for clarification. Dartey supports this move but insists it must lead to real consequences.

“Nobody is perfect; we all have weaknesses,” he said. “That’s why punishment exists to correct our mistakes.”

He emphasized that if Gyamfi can act contrary to presidential directives without discipline, it undermines the President’s authority.
