Sammy Gyamfi must resign for public misconduct – ACUC

The AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC) has called for Mr. Sammy Gyamfi's resignation. He is the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). This demand follows a viral video showing him giving foreign currency to Madam Patricia Oduro Koranteng, known as Nana Agradaa.

Dr. Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg leads the ACUC. He stated that if Mr. Gyamfi's misconduct is proven, he should resign or be dismissed by the president. Dr. Aziginaateeg emphasized that this incident harms Ghana’s image and tarnishes the presidency.

He noted that President John Dramani Mahama recently launched a code of conduct for government officials. “This is a test case for good governance,” he said, urging Mr. Gyamfi to resign due to his actions.

Dr. Aziginaateeg questioned how the government can address corruption issues when such incidents occur. He pointed out that giving away foreign currency undermines the credibility of a mineral-related board's CEO.

He warned that if the president does not act, he risks becoming unpopular quickly. A review of government appointees should happen within six months, according to him.

Mr. Gyamfi has apologized to Ghanaians and the president regarding the video content. He explained it was meant as a kind gesture and not intended for public view.

In his post on X, he expressed regret over the uproar caused by his actions. He acknowledged understanding why some comrades are hurt and offered sincere apologies for his indiscretion.
