Ras Mubarak, a former MP for Kumbungu, has raised concerns about a recent video. The video features Sammy Gyamfi and self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa.
Mubarak stressed that public officials should prioritize national interests. They must show confidence in Ghana’s economy and currency.
He criticized the act of giving away foreign currency. This is especially concerning as the cedi is improving.
Mubarak noted that even well-intentioned gifts can harm the local currency. Many sectors are increasingly charging in US dollars, which adds to the cedi's challenges.
“Sammy Gyamfi’s actions may suggest a lack of confidence in the cedi,” he said. He added that this contradicts government regulations promoting local currency use. Such actions could negatively affect the cedi's value and stability.
Mubarak also called for accountability from Agradaa regarding taxes on her foreign currency gift.
“Mama Pat Agradaa should pay the gift tax,” he stated. He urged the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to pursue this tax matter seriously. Adhering to tax laws is crucial for the country’s financial health.
