Ernest Owusu-Bempah Defends Sammy Gyamfi Amid Controversy
Ernest Owusu-Bempah is a Deputy Director of Communications for the NPP. He recently dismissed allegations against Sammy Gyamfi, Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. He called the case “dead upon arrival.”
Owusu-Bempah spoke on Net2 TV during a political discussion. He defended Gyamfi against growing criticisms. “Nobody has the right to attack that young man,” he stated.
He emphasized, “There’s nothing wrong.” He added that $10,000 is not a big deal. “Let him enjoy whatever it is,” he said.
Owusu-Bempah acknowledged youthful mistakes but urged constructive criticism instead of public vilification. He stressed that political discussions should be based on facts.
He warned against character assassination and called for empirical evidence. If there are criminal issues, he said appropriate institutions should handle them.
He also cautioned against involving neutral officers in partisan accusations. “Dragging the Chief of Staff into this is unnecessary,” he noted.
The controversy began after a video showed Gyamfi giving what looked like US dollars to Agradaa. This act faced swift condemnation from the Minority in Parliament.
They deemed it inappropriate and called for Gyamfi’s suspension. In response, Nana Agradaa expressed concern about how this incident could affect Gyamfi's career.
