The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, praised Sammy Gyamfi. He is the CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). Otumfuo recognized Gyamfi's leadership in enhancing Ghana's gold value.
He spoke at the Mining in Motion Summit in Accra on June 2. Otumfuo commended Gyamfi for promoting value addition and fair returns. He acknowledged Gyamfi’s efforts to strengthen institutions in the gold industry.
“Sammy, I thank you very much on this one,” he said. The Asantehene highlighted Gyamfi’s role in improving the gold sector.
However, he noted that illegal mining is not the only issue. The real challenge is managing and benefiting from natural resources globally.
“Illicit mining distracts us from maximizing our benefits,” he stated. He emphasized that Ghana has not effectively represented itself internationally.
Otumfuo mentioned that the mining sector offers a chance for economic change. “We can rewrite our story through gold if we take ourselves seriously,” he concluded.
The summit gathered industry players, policymakers, and traditional leaders. They discussed sustainable reforms for Ghana’s mining industry.
