Samuel A. Jinapor, the Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasized Ghana's role in promoting democracy in the Sahel region.

The Damongo MP stated that Ghana should uphold democratic values. This is especially important in relations with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Mr. Jinapor made these comments in Parliament. He was seconding a motion for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' budget approval.

He referenced Article 40 of Ghana’s Constitution. This article mandates the government to promote democracy internationally. He pointed out the military rule currently present in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Jinapor stressed that Ghana must commit to restoring democracy there.

He said, “While we urge the Foreign Ministry to pursue regional integration, we must not overlook democratic governance.”

He added that efforts should focus on restoring democracy across West Africa and Africa as a whole.

Mr. Jinapor reaffirmed that democracy is essential for all governments, including Ghana's.

He called on the government to lead efforts to restore constitutional rule in the Sahel region. It is crucial that the will of the people is respected throughout this area.

He expressed full support for the motion before Parliament and urged its adoption.

“With these few words,” he said, “I ask this House to adopt this report supporting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

His remarks highlight Ghana’s commitment to democratic values and call for action from the government. Democracy should remain central to its foreign policy engagements in the Sahel region.
