The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is challenging the government's claims about a recent raid. This raid took place in Sapeiman and involved National Security operatives. NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua stated that the seized assets belong to an opposition member.
During an interview on AsaasePa FM, Mr. Kodua dismissed claims of counterfeit items. He described the seized gold bars and U.S. dollars as genuine. He questioned why the government labeled the cash as fake, suggesting a possible cover-up.
Kodua said, “They thought the warehouse belonged to an NPP member, but it didn’t.” He claimed investigations revealed it belonged to a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). “That’s why they’re saying the currencies are fake,” he added.
The National Security operation occurred in Ga South Municipality. Operatives stormed a private warehouse and seized cash in Ghanaian cedis and U.S. dollars. The money was hidden in unusual ways, including wooden crates filled with cement.
Some currency was found in containers marked with Bank of Ghana insignia. Kodua pointed out, “These are currencies contained in Bank of Ghana boxes.” He questioned how these contents could be considered fake.
These comments have added political tension to an ongoing investigation. The situation has implications for economic and national security governance. Although officials suggested some seized materials were counterfeit, no formal report has been released yet detailing forensic findings from the raid.
