The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat has awarded a full scholarship to Dorcas Baafi. She is a 21-year-old former student of Oguaa Senior High/Technical School. This scholarship allows her to pursue her dream of studying Medicine.
Dorcas comes from Jukwa Frami in the Central Region. She scored an impressive aggregate 7 in the WASSCE. Despite her academic success, she faced financial difficulties and could not continue her education. To survive, she took on menial jobs, putting her dream of becoming a doctor at risk.
Her story gained attention on Facebook through user Danny Kojo Mint. This prompted quick action from the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat. Under Registrar Alex Kwaku Asafo Adjei and H.E. John Dramani Mahama's leadership, they offered Dorcas a full scholarship package. This package includes tuition, accommodation, and a monthly stipend.
“This is the true purpose of the scholarship scheme,” said Asafo Adjei. “We aim to support deserving students who lack financial means.”
President Mahama emphasized his vision for accessible scholarships for needy students. He stated that no gifted student should be left behind due to financial issues. Asafo Adjei shared this news with Dorcas's family at the Secretariat.
This initiative has received widespread praise as a step toward educational equity. It signals a renewed commitment to investing in Ghana’s future through human capital development.
