Caterers in the Ghana School Feeding Programme plan to petition the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. They seek his help after their contracts were terminated by the Mahama administration.
On May 2, 2025, all caterer contracts ended. There has been no official word on new contracts. Authorities promised to pay outstanding arrears but provided no timeline.
Madam Margaret Larbi is the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the National School Feeding Caterers Association. In an interview with Citi FM, she said they are reaching out to traditional and religious leaders for mediation.
“Our President instructed us to send petitions,” she stated. “We are contacting Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his intervention.”
Madam Larbi also mentioned plans to reach out to the National Chief Imam, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.
“We hope he can intercede on our behalf,” she added. “Tomorrow [Friday, May 9], we will send petitions to other key individuals.”
At a recent press conference, association President Gifty Asamoah spoke about their situation. She noted that members bought foodstuffs based on earlier government agreements.
"We are not asking for contract renewal," she explained. "We want permission to cook until the academic year ends so we can access our arrears."
