School Feeding Caterers welcome fee increase but say more needed

The School Feeding Caterers Association has welcomed the government's decision to raise the feeding grant for basic school students from GHC 1.50 to GHC 2.00, acknowledging it as progress but still inadequate.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced the increment during a social media engagement ahead of the 2025 budget presentation.

The move responds to long-standing appeals from caterers and education stakeholders.

Association president Nana Otu Sakyi-Amo Twafohene expressed gratitude to President Mahama but urged further improvements, including extending the program to junior high schools.

While caterers appreciate the relief, they insist GHC 2.00 per child remains insufficient.

The new rate takes effect in April, marking a crucial step in sustaining the school feeding program.
