MTN Ghana, known as Scancom PLC on the Ghana Stock Exchange, has exciting news for shareholders. The telecom giant declared a record dividend for the 2024 financial year.
Last week, the company’s board announced and shareholders approved a total dividend of GHS0.305 per share. This marks a 35.6 percent increase from last year.
In Ghana, an eight percent withholding tax applies to dividends. Shareholders will receive net payments after these tax deductions.
According to GraphicOnline's analysis of MTN's annual report, several key shareholders will benefit significantly. Among them are the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Board Chairman Ishmael Yamson, and Director Ebenezer Asante.
SSNIT owns 203,825,694 shares and will receive substantial payouts. They will get an interim dividend of GHS13,248,670.11 and a final dividend of GH₵48,918,166.56. This totals GHS62,166,836.67 before tax deductions.
After an eight percent withholding tax deduction of GH₵4,973,346.93, SSNIT's net dividend will be GH₵57,193,489.74.
Board Chairman Ishmael Yamson holds 834,344 shares. He will receive an interim dividend of GH₵54,232.36 and a final dividend of GHS200,242.56. His total payout is GH₵254,474.92 before taxes.
After deducting GHS20,357.99 in withholding tax, Yamson's net earnings will be GH₵234,116.93.
Ebenezer Asante owns 8 million shares and stands to gain significantly as well. His interim dividend is GH₵520,006.50 while his final dividend is GH₵1,92002400.
This brings his total earnings to GH₵2,44003050 before taxes. After a withholding tax deduction of GH₵19520244 his net dividend will be GH₵2 ,24482806 .
The majority shareholder Investcom Consortium Holdings S.A., holds 9 billion shares and is set for the largest payout . Their interim dividend alone amounts to GH₵61978888380 while their final dividend stands at GH₂28845126328 .
Before taxes , this totals a staggering amount of GH₂90824014708 . After an eight percent withholding tax deduction of GH₂3265921177 , Investcom’s net payout will be approximately GH₂67558093531 .
The increase in dividends follows MTN Ghana’s strong financial performance in 2024 with revenue reaching GHS17 .9 billion .
The company’s payout represents 80 .26 percent of profit after tax showing its commitment to rewarding shareholders . Despite reducing its stake , Investcom remains dominant while SSNIT has slightly increased its stake reflecting growing local interest .
At the AGM , MTN Ghana announced a final payment of 24 pesewas per share pending shareholder approval . Disbursement is set for April 16 , 2025 .
The total dividend for 2024 stands at 30 .5 pesewas per share translating to about GHS4 billion which represents around 80 percent profit after tax totaling GHS5 billion .
This marks a significant increase in dividends compared to last year . MTN Ghana continues to hold a strong position in Ghana’s stock market offering significant returns to investors.
