Renowned businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has partnered with a local initiative. They aim to provide food support to vulnerable residents in Adaboya-Kunkoe. This is located in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.
On Monday, they distributed 35 bags of maize. The donation reached dozens of women in the farming community. About 70 elderly residents benefited from this support. Most recipients were widows, single mothers, or individuals unable to farm due to illness or disability.
The rural community relies on subsistence farming. However, low and erratic rains have hurt their harvests in recent years. This has led to increased hunger among residents. The donation was meant to help supplement their food supplies.
Mrs. Janet Abugre coordinates the annual donation initiative. She shared that Alhaji Agongo's support expanded their reach this year. "What began as an effort for about 20 individuals now helps around 70," she said. The distribution usually occurs in June during planting season but happened earlier this year.
Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude for the timely assistance. The distribution took place at a neutral location for dignity and privacy. "We provide food rather than money," Mrs. Abugre explained, ensuring households access essential nourishment.
Alhaji Agongo is known for his philanthropic activities across Ghana. He continues his tradition of giving back through this partnership with the community. Despite this year's significant impact, Mrs. Abugre noted that many needs remain unmet in the community.
She hopes for continued support from philanthropists like Alhaji Agongo in future years to broaden their initiative's reach further.
