Shutting down Washington Embassy over fraud inconsiderate – Adomako Kissi

Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, a former MP for Anyaa Sowutuom, has criticized Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. He calls the decision to temporarily close Ghana’s embassy in Washington, D.C., “inconsiderate.”

The closure was announced on May 26, 2025. It follows allegations of corruption and abuse at the embassy. Ablakwa stated that this move aims to restructure and restore accountability after a special audit revealed fraud.

“This is part of the drastic actions I have taken,” said Ablakwa. He emphasized that he has President Mahama's support for these measures.

On Breakfast Daily, Dr. Adomako Kissi questioned the timing of this decision. He noted that summer travel is approaching, which is a peak season.

“There are many Ghanaians who are now Americans wanting to visit Ghana,” he explained. He believes the minister acted inconsiderately by closing the embassy.

Dr. Adomako suggested exploring alternatives like cybersecurity measures or digital reforms instead of shutting down consular services. “This could have been handled without closing the embassy,” he added.
