Deborah Seyram Adablah, a former National Service person, has been sentenced to 45 days in prison.
The sentence is for contempt of court. This follows her posting negative remarks about judges involved in her case.
She was summoned to the Accra High Court. The court wanted her to explain why she should not be held in contempt. This was due to two viral videos where she criticized the judiciary.
The videos were played in open court. They were seen as undermining the authority and dignity of the court.
Adablah's legal battle with a banker began two years ago. It involves an alleged breach of contract.
In November 2023, the court ruled that her case lacked merit. The court found no substantive issues raised by Adablah in her suit.
However, her recent videos focused on criticizing the judiciary. This led to her being summoned by the court again.
Ultimately, she was convicted and sentenced to 45 days' imprisonment for contempt.
Background
Adablah filed a lawsuit on January 23, 2023. She claimed that Mr. Ernest Kwasi Nimako, whom she called her "sugar daddy," made several promises.
These promises included buying her a car and paying for three years of accommodation. He also promised a monthly stipend of GH¢3,000 and marriage after divorcing his wife.
Adablah stated that Mr. Nimako took back the car after one year. He only paid for one year of accommodation instead of three.
In her plea, Adablah sought an order for Mr. Nimako to transfer the car's title to her. She also wanted him to fulfill his promise regarding starting a business.
Additionally, she requested payment for two years' accommodation and coverage for medical expenses related to family planning treatment advised by Mr. Nimako.
