Six individuals were convicted by the High Court in Tamale. They were involved in a payroll corruption scheme. This scheme included ghost names and fraudulent salary payments in the Ghana Education Service.
The convictions resulted from guilty pleas under the OSP’s plea bargaining framework. This led to full restitution and reparation to the State.
According to an OSP report on May 15, those convicted include school administrators, payroll officers, and accountants. They facilitated illegal salary validation for a teacher who had left his post.
Their actions caused wrongful payments exceeding GH¢86,000. Fortunately, all of this money has now been recovered. The total amount retrieved is GH¢106,319.64.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is pursuing more suspects as part of an ongoing investigation.
Currently, the OSP has six other criminal trials underway in Accra, Tamale, and Kumasi. They are intensifying efforts to charge more individuals under investigation and protect public funds.
