Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, defended the One Million Coders Programme. He dismissed claims that it is a rushed initiative.
George stated that the plan reflects long-term vision and careful preparation. This effort is under President John Dramani Mahama's leadership.
“John Mahama has a vision beyond measure,” he said. “This plan is not a knee-jerk reaction.” He noted that Mahama first announced the plan in 2019.
“We’ve had six years to build the model,” George explained. “We’ve taken time to understand our goals and make arrangements.”
He emphasized that the programme aims to equip Ghana’s youth with digital skills. He expressed his commitment to its success, citing his track record.
“Anyone who knows my politics knows I don’t fail,” he added. “I always get vindicated by time.”
In the same discussion, Sam George mentioned removing the betting tax. He said this decision helps create economic activity in certain industries.
“The betting tax was frustrating for the industry,” he stated. “We have removed it.”
