The Constitutional Review Consultative Committee (CRCC) has submitted its report to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, recommending that the size of Parliament be capped at 277 elected members.
The proposed amendment to Article 93 of the 1992 Constitution suggests limiting the number of MPs to 277, with consequential changes to Article 47 to set a maximum number of constituencies.
The CRCC emphasized that reducing the number of constituencies would likely cause political conflict, particularly with regard to which constituencies should be eliminated.
As an alternative, the committee suggests maintaining the current number of constituencies, capping Parliament at 277 members to avoid unnecessary acrimony.
