Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has declared his innocence. This statement comes amid ongoing legal proceedings about the Sky Train project.
On May 30, he issued a personal statement. In it, he confirmed that he pleaded not guilty to all charges. He emphasized his commitment to transparency and justice.
“I welcome the opportunity to clear my name,” he stated confidently.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is among former GIIF officials facing prosecution over the stalled $2.3 billion Sky Train initiative. The project aimed to modernize urban transport in Ghana but was suspended due to procurement issues and financial doubts.
He described the aftermath of his arraignment as “challenging.” The respected academic expressed gratitude for the support he has received.
“I have been deeply moved by the outpouring of solidarity,” he said. He noted that encouragement from family, friends, and his legal team has strengthened his resolve.
He thanked former Assin Central MP Hon. Kennedy Agyapong for his “Santaclausian brotherliness.” He also praised Techiman South MP Hon. Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah for his unwavering support, highlighting its importance.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He is a respected elder statesman with a distinguished record in public service and academia.
