The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, revealed new details about the Accra Sky Train project. A $2 million payment was made to a nonexistent company in Mauritius. This transfer happened without informing other board members.
At a press conference on March 24, Mr. Ayine discussed the ongoing investigation. He stated that members of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) board were unaware of this transaction. One board member even questioned why GIIF rushed to make the payment.
However, no clear answers were provided by those involved in the transfer. The two individuals responsible moved $2 million of taxpayers’ money to this Mauritius company.
Further investigations confirmed that the recipient company does not exist. A lawyer in Mauritius verified its nonexistence, according to Mr. Ayine.
The payment request came from GIIF’s former CEO, Solomon Asamoah, and then-board chairman Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi. Solomon Asamoah is currently hiding in Senegal. Prof Ameyaw Ekumfi has been questioned by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and granted bail.
