The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, announced investigations into the National Service and SkyTrain scandals. He expects these investigations to conclude by mid-April. This will allow prosecutions to begin.
At a press conference in Accra, Dr. Ayine shared updates on the National Service scandal. Eight suspects have been interrogated, and some are cooperating with investigators. Evidence shows that vendors paid top executives directly.
It is also alleged that the CEO and others paid a Ghanaian MP to suppress the story. They reportedly wanted him to publicly defend them.
Regarding the SkyTrain scandal, Dr. Ayine confirmed that $2 million was paid at the request of Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi and Mr. Solomon Asamoah. Prof. Ekumfi is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for GIIF, while Mr. Asamoah is its CEO.
Mr. Asamoah is currently hiding in Senegal and refuses to return to Ghana for three months. Dr. Ayine warned that if he does not return, he will be tried in absentia.
Prof. Ekumfi remains in Ghana and will face prosecution for his role in facilitating the fund transfer with Asamoah.
The Attorney-General reaffirmed the government's commitment to accountability and fighting corruption within public institutions.
