The National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons has issued a warning. They urge transport operators to stay alert while transporting passengers and goods. Arms and explosives may be secretly carried by unsuspecting individuals.
This warning came during a training session for transport operators. The goal was to help them detect, prevent, and report suspicious items. Dr. Adam Bonaa, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, spoke to the media on June 5.
He emphasized that all passengers should declare their luggage contents before boarding. This precaution is vital for protecting lives. He noted that sometimes buses collide, leading to dangerous situations.
Dr. Bonaa explained that some buses might unknowingly carry explosives. If there is a fire or trigger, it could cause chain explosions. The training aims to align operators with the president's safety agenda.
He also mentioned that fuel prices have decreased recently. This means more people can now afford to travel than before. The commission's mandate is to train transport operators effectively.
By the end of the day, they hope most participants will gain essential skills. These skills will help them detect threats and alert security agencies when necessary.
