Small-scale miners alarmed by illegal river mining, call for immediate action

The Small Scale Miners Association has condemned illegal mining in Ghana’s rivers and vowed to enhance their efforts to stop it.

The association announced plans to patrol mining areas, apprehend offenders, and protect the environment.

They also accused some politicians of supporting illegal mining operations by foreigners, potentially to discredit the current government before the December elections.

During a recent operation on River Mankran, the association’s task force seized and destroyed mining equipment used in illegal activities, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s water bodies.
