A 26-year-old car washer, Isaac Tetteh Angmortey, has been remanded into custody for three weeks by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, Hannah Amedi.

Presiding Judge Mr. Kwasi Apiatse Abaidoo remanded Angmortey after he pleaded guilty to causing harm under Section 84 of the Criminal Code 1960 (Act 29). He is scheduled to reappear in court on April 10, 2025.

According to Police Chief Inspector John Brahene, officers received a distress call reporting a violent attack on a pregnant woman along Mount Mary Road in Somanya. Upon arrival, they found Angmortey physically assaulting Amedi and arrested him.

Amedi, who is six months pregnant, suffered multiple injuries, including swelling on her forehead and bleeding from her lips, neck, and ears. She was issued a medical form and taken to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital for treatment.

Investigations revealed that Amedi had been staying with her aunt for about a month due to the accused’s previous abusive behavior. Angmortey admitted to the assault, claiming he suspected his girlfriend of being unfaithful while he was at work.

Medical checks confirmed that the unborn child was unharmed. Meanwhile, authorities and community members have condemned the incident, calling for justice and stronger measures against domestic violence.
