Something we managed for 8 years has become a challenge for NDC in 4 months – Bawumia on ‘dumsor’

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former vice president and NPP presidential candidate, criticized the NDC. He mocked them for the current power issues known as dumsor.

Bawumia noted that the NPP managed power generation well for eight years. In contrast, he said the NDC is struggling after just four months. He warned Ghanaians that the NDC and dumsor are linked, but they did not heed his advice.

During the NPP’s “Thank You Tour,” Bawumia stated, “Can you have a 24-hour economy with dumsor? We warned Ghanaians about this connection.” He emphasized that it is now clear there is a major problem.

Meanwhile, John Jinapor, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, disagreed with a one-day dumsor timetable. He claimed Ghana generates enough power to meet demand but lacks excess capacity.

Jinapor explained that when one plant goes offline, it causes disruptions. Therefore, they cannot publish a load-shedding timetable if they can restore power quickly. He asked Ghanaians to be patient as they address these challenges.

He added that their current generation matches demand closely. Sometimes there may be disruptions when plants go down. However, he expressed confidence in resolving these issues soon.

Jinapor acknowledged that inherited challenges in the power sector will take time to fix. He believes significant progress is being made and expects improvements in the coming weeks.
