Francis-Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina and legal practitioner, has criticized the five-year sentence handed to Kofi Asare, 29, for vandalizing vehicles at Parliament, calling it unjust.
Sosu argued that Asare should have undergone a medical evaluation to determine his mental state before being arraigned. He also noted the absence of legal representation during the trial, describing the situation as a failure of the justice system.
Asare, who pleaded guilty, claimed frustration over youth unemployment motivated his actions.
The court, however, deemed the act a serious threat to public safety.
Sosu, comparing the case to a 2015 incident involving Charles Antwi, pledged to take up the matter as a public interest case, emphasizing the need for due process and fairness.
