Ahead of International Women’s Day, Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu has reintroduced the Anti-Witchcraft Accusation Bill, aiming to criminalize witchcraft accusations and safeguard vulnerable elderly women.
The bill, initially passed by Parliament in July 2023, was never signed into law by former President Akufo-Addo due to constitutional concerns, leading to its lapse with the 8th Parliament’s dissolution.
Undeterred, Sosu has secured support from nine MPs to push the bill through the 9th Parliament.
Among them are Rockson Dafeamekpor, Comfort Doyoe, and Dr. Godfred Jasaw.
With backing from CHRAJ and human rights advocates, Sosu remains committed to ensuring the bill’s passage, reinforcing Ghana’s constitutional and international obligations to protect the elderly from abuse and discrimination.
