**Bagbin Approves NIB’s Request to Question A Plus and Another MP**
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has approved a request from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). They will question Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus. This follows an incident involving a truck carrying suspected stolen cables in his constituency.
The questioning will occur within Parliament, as directed by the Speaker. Mustapha Yussif, the MP for Yagaba Kubori, will also be questioned.
An April 4 statement from the Clerk to Parliament outlined specific conditions for this meeting. It cites Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution and existing protocols with security agencies. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room.
Both MPs have been advised to bring their legal representatives. This news comes after A Plus reported that a truck broke down in Gomoa Awombrew. Residents suspected it was carrying missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) goods.
They reported their suspicions to the Swedru Divisional Police Command. Police officers and ECG officials inspected the cargo. The driver could not provide credible information about the goods' source or destination.
The police found the waybill suspicious during their inspection. ECG officials confirmed that the cables matched items reported missing. Consequently, police took custody of the driver and others involved for further investigation.
National Security has been invited to assist with this case.
In related news, an audit revealed over 1,300 containers belonging to ECG went missing at Tema Port. Initially, ECG claimed they had 2,491 uncleared containers containing important equipment.
Since details emerged about these missing containers, some have been located across Ghana. For instance, on March 27, authorities traced 40 containers to a warehouse owned by an Indian national.
Concerns over alleged corruption continue in Ghana's government. Recent headlines include the arrest of Kwabena Adu-Boahene for embezzling $7 million meant for a cyber defense contract.
Additionally, former Public Procurement Authority Board Chairman Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi is under investigation for financial dealings during his tenure at the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.
