Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, criticized MPs for failing accountability. This follows an unresolved offensive comment made months ago.
During a House session on May 27, he expressed disappointment. He highlighted the inability to identify the MP who insulted Korle Klottey MP, Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings. This incident occurred during a debate on February 4, 2025.
Bagbin stated, “Investigations are ongoing. I am disappointed that no one can name the member.” He emphasized that three MPs from the area where the comment came from had been identified. However, none have come forward with a name.
He questioned both sides of the House about their inaction. He particularly noted the majority's failure to act despite their numbers.
“With all your numbers,” he said, “none of you can identify who spoke? The person spoke twice. Even the Minority Leader looked in that direction.”
Bagbin also raised concerns about missing visual evidence. The CCTV systems in the chamber did not capture the incident.
He concluded by stating these matters are serious and will be addressed when properly reported to him.
