Special Prosecutor calls for stronger anti-corruption collaboration

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has called for better collaboration. He wants institutional heads and anti-corruption bodies to work together. Corruption continues to drain resources needed for public services.

Agyebeng emphasized that the fight against corruption must focus on justice, integrity, and inclusivity. No one should be left behind in this effort.

He spoke at the opening of a two-day West Africa Regional Anti-Corruption Policy Dialogue in Accra on June 2. The event was organized by Transparency International Ghana. The theme was “Breaking Barriers: Transforming Healthcare and Education Access for Women through Inclusive Policies and Practices.”

Mr. Agyebeng highlighted the need for stronger collaboration to tackle corruption. He informed Professor Samuel Kaba from the Ghana Health Service about ongoing investigations into alleged corrupt practices. He also mentioned similar issues involving Professor Ernest Kofi Davis from the Ghana Education Service.

He noted new forms of corruption affecting education and healthcare. Some officers are claiming money for non-existent schools, he said. Others are using laptops with forged signatures to issue appointment letters.

Agyebeng urged stakeholders to rethink governance approaches. They should make these approaches more functional and responsive to economic realities. He also suggested that the Constitutional Review Commission add a chapter focused on anti-corruption in the Constitution.
