St. Thomas Eye Hospital has been named the Best Eye Hospital. This recognition came at the 9th Ghana CEO Summit on May 26. The event took place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.
This award highlights the hospital's commitment to excellent eye care. It also acknowledges its contributions to Ghana's healthcare sector.
Dr. Michael Ekuoba Gyasi is the Medical Director and CEO of the hospital. Under his leadership, St. Thomas Eye Hospital has become a leader in ophthalmology.
The hospital started as the North Western Eye Centre in 2010 and rebranded in 2014. It has introduced advanced surgical procedures like phacoemulsification cataract surgery and micro-incisional vitrectomy.
Dr. Gyasi aims for more than just clinical excellence. He has built international partnerships with organizations like Unite for Sight and Charity Vision International. These partnerships help provide advanced surgical services to patients who cannot afford them.
His advocacy led to a significant donation of modern eye equipment from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This donation improved the hospital's diagnostic and surgical capabilities.
The hospital also focuses on social responsibility through outreach programs. It has provided over 10,000 free sight restoration surgeries so far. Additionally, it has screened more than 200,000 people for various eye diseases.
The Ghana CEO Summit is a key platform for business leaders and policymakers. It encourages discussions aimed at driving economic transformation in Ghana.
This year's summit was themed "Leading Ghana's Economic Reset." It emphasized leadership and innovation as vital for shaping Ghana's future.
Recognizing St. Thomas Eye Hospital at this event celebrates its achievements and sets a standard for excellence in healthcare in Ghana. As quality healthcare becomes a priority, institutions like St. Thomas exemplify dedication, innovation, and community engagement.
