Ghana is enhancing its climate leadership with a new strategy. This plan aims to build local resilience and promote regional advocacy. It also seeks to position Ghana as a climate-conscious nation in West Africa.
Alhaji Baba Seidu Issifu, the Minister of State for Climate Change, made a bold declaration. He called for stronger collaboration among ministries, district assemblies, and disaster management bodies. The goal is to protect vulnerable communities from climate change's worsening effects.
“We must work together,” said the Minister. He emphasized building a response system that is both reactive and preventive. The aim is to attract financial and technical resources for sustainable solutions.
The Ministry will create climate and sustainability units in all relevant ministries. Climate desks will also be established within district assemblies. These units will drive advocacy, engage local communities, and monitor climate projects effectively.
The Minister highlighted that behavioral change is crucial for climate adaptation. He stressed the importance of grassroots conversations for lasting impact. “Climate change is a behavioral challenge,” he stated.
Additionally, the Ministry plans to launch a National Climate Hub. This hub will lead in research, policy development, data collection, and climate finance. It aims to serve not only Ghana but the entire sub-region.
“This will be a home for advocacy and support,” said the Minister. “Ghana is ready to lead.”
