The state has withdrawn all charges against Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, who was among nine individuals accused in connection with the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank.

Dr. Asiama and others, including UT Bank founder Prince Kofi Amoabeng, faced charges such as fraudulent breach of trust, money laundering, and violations of the Bank of Ghana Act.

The charges stemmed from the central bank’s financial sector cleanup, which led to the revocation of multiple banking licenses.

Amoabeng has consistently denied any wrongdoing, attributing UT Bank’s collapse to systemic challenges rather than financial mismanagement.

Similarly, in the UniBank case, former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and his son were also accused of financial crimes.

The decision to drop charges against Dr. Asiama raises fresh questions about the legal proceedings surrounding Ghana’s banking crisis.
