Kofi Tonto, a political aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He urged the OSP to focus on legal actions instead of press conferences regarding former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
In an interview on Asempa FM, Mr. Tonto questioned the credibility of the OSP under Kissi Agyebeng. He suggested that the office has held “more press conferences than cases won.”
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor is wasting public resources,” Tonto stated. He added that if they have evidence against Ofori-Atta, they should go to court instead of seeking publicity.
Tonto argued that Ofori-Atta does not need to be in Ghana for legal action to start. He said any delay in prosecution is due to the OSP’s inefficiency.
“If you have a solid case, go to court,” he insisted. “This media trial without substance erodes public trust and wastes taxpayers’ money.”
His comments respond to recent statements from the OSP declaring Ken Ofori-Atta wanted for alleged financial misconduct. Tonto believes these tactics are politically motivated and lack seriousness from an independent prosecutorial body.
