The government of Ghana has launched a new chip-embedded passport. This passport includes advanced security features to prevent forgery. It aims to enhance the travel experience for citizens.
The new passport has a polycarbonate data page. It uses nanotechnology and micro radio frequency identification (RFID) for better security and durability.
At the launch ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa spoke about its importance. He advised citizens to handle the passport with care. Avoid exposing it to physical damage, heat, or liquids.
In a light-hearted moment, the Minister joked about not using the passport for spiritual anointing. Such practices could harm its embedded technologies.
Reverend Dr. Lawrence attended the event as well. He promised to work with religious leaders on proper handling awareness among congregations.
This new passport is part of a broader initiative by the government. The goal is to modernize public service delivery and improve traveler security.
As part of these reforms, a 24-hour hotline has been established. This hotline will handle feedback and address concerns from citizens.
Ghanaians can now apply for the new passport online. They can also track their application progress in real-time.
Authorities assure that regular applications will be processed within 15 working days. Expedited services will be completed in under 5 days.
The launch marks a significant milestone in strengthening document security in Ghana. It provides citizens with a safer means of international travel.
