Political analyst Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Bawumia is the 2024 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Vice President.
Dr. Asah-Asante urges Bawumia to take responsibility for the NPP’s failures. He believes deflecting blame will not help the party recover.
In an interview on Citi FM, Dr. Asah-Asante advised Bawumia to show boldness and integrity. He warned that shifting blame would undermine the NPP's chances of recovery.
Dr. Bawumia previously attributed the NPP's loss to several factors. These include arrogance of power, high living costs, and failure to reshuffle government officials. He also mentioned the controversial E-Levy and unpopular haircut policy under IMF debt restructuring.
Dr. Asah-Asante questioned how the party compiled its post-election report. He specifically asked if it captured regional and constituency-specific issues affecting voter behavior.
“I want to see the instrument they used to collect data,” he said. “If it didn’t address regional or constituency issues, I have a problem.”
He emphasized that confronting shortcomings is essential for recovery. “They have a lot of work to do, but this approach won’t help them,” he stated.
“They need to analyze the report and address these issues,” Dr. Asah-Asante concluded.
“All they need to do is be bold and admit their mistakes,” he added. “Acknowledge failures, then move forward with integrity.”
He warned against passing blame: “You are running away from the truth.” In politics, he noted, there will be a day of reckoning when reality must be faced.
