Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to regroup. He wants them to prepare for a strong comeback in the 2028 general election.
Akufo-Addo spoke during a visit from constituency organisers in Greater Accra. The delegation was led by Prince Obeng, the NPP's Greater Accra Regional Organiser. He acknowledged the party’s recent electoral defeat but called for unity and purpose.
“Political parties win or lose elections. Yes, we have lost an election. But I know we can come back,” he said. He encouraged members to stop feeling sorry for themselves and to reorganise as one.
“We should behave like we believe we can win back the trust of the people for 2028,” he added.
The visit was part of internal consultations on proposed constitutional amendments within the party. The delegation sought a clearer definition of constituency organisers' roles in the NPP’s constitution and asked Akufo-Addo to support this cause.
During the meeting, organisers raised concerns about alleged government interference with the judiciary. They claimed there is a plot to suspend or remove the Chief Justice, which could threaten constitutional safeguards like presidential term limits.
While Akufo-Addo did not address these claims directly, his message focused on party cohesion and recovery. Delegation members described his remarks as “profound and inspiring.”
This visit comes at a reflective time for the NPP as it strategises its future after losing the last general elections.
