*Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) has condemned school heads for demanding examination and printing fees from parents ahead of the upcoming term assessments on April 7.
The group revealed that some schools are threatening to bar pupils who haven’t paid, a move they describe as illegal and a breach of Ghana’s Pre-Tertiary Education Act 2020.
Citing Section 2(b), Eduwatch stressed that basic education must be free and inclusive, and no child should be excluded from exams due to unpaid fees. While they support voluntary parental contributions, they insist such payments must not be tied to assessments.
The group urged the Ministry of Education to release funds for assessments without shifting costs to parents.
They also called on the GES Director-General and Education Minister to intervene and ensure no pupil is denied access to exams.
