The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, spoke out on Monday. He addressed Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin's comments about public officials.
Dr. Ayine urged Afenyo-Markin to stop abusing his parliamentary immunity. He accused him of defaming officials doing their jobs legally.
At a press conference, Dr. Ayine discussed the investigation into a search at former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison's home. He clarified that this was a legal search, not a raid as some have claimed.
Dr. Ayine mentioned that there is a recording of Addison discussing the incident. “If Afenyo-Markin is daring me, we will share that recording,” he said.
He also urged Afenyo-Markin to stop maligning law enforcement officers and himself for their work.
As the leader at the bar, Dr. Ayine promised to act ethically in his role. “I will always prioritize ethics in my profession,” he stated.
He advised both the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and National Security to follow legal guidelines during investigations.
“I have told EOCO and National Security to stay within legal bounds,” he affirmed.
The Attorney General reiterated that Afenyo-Markin should not misuse his immunity to defame public officials engaged in lawful activities.
