Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is the Ranking Member on the Economy and Development Committee. He is also the Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi. He has urged the government to focus on strengthening Ghana’s economy. This should be done instead of using it for political gain.
His comments came after the minority claimed a recent IMF agreement supports the previous NPP administration. The current government had accused that administration of breaching the IMF program and mismanaging the economy.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, Nkrumah stressed the need for policy continuity. He called for responsible governance from the current administration. “They should build on progress, not undermine it,” he said.
Nkrumah accused the current government of discrediting economic data for political advantage. He believes this effort has been disproven by the IMF's assessment. “Their attempt to undermine economic data has now been exposed,” he stated.
He expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic direction. He emphasized that bipartisan collaboration is crucial for progress. “We are happy when Ghana makes progress between NPP and NDC,” he said, noting that IMF findings show Ghana is still on track.
