Eric Nartey Yeboah is the Second Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He criticized the party's national leadership for not acting against Deputy National Communications Officer, Ernest Owusu Bempah Bonsu. Yeboah called Owusu Bempah's behavior grossly indisciplined and unacceptable for a party executive.
Yeboah questioned why the party hesitates to address this issue. He noted that other senior members faced sanctions for similar or lesser offenses. "The party quickly punished former MP Adwoa Safo, yet delays action on Owusu Bempah," he said. He asked why Owusu Bempah should be treated as an exception.
He also doubted Owusu Bempah's legitimacy within the party. Yeboah suggested that he lacks commitment compared to longstanding members. He pointed out that others with deep roots in the party have been suspended for similar offenses.
Yeboah made these comments during a media interview after receiving Prof Mike Oquaye's report at Alisa Hotel in Accra on Wednesday. He mentioned that some know about Owusu Bempah’s connections to the National Democratic Congress and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
He questioned if someone with such a background should be treated differently when found guilty. “If Bempah’s comments were truly in the party's interest, why are respected leaders like Nana Akomea criticizing him?” he asked, referring to recent remarks about Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
Yeboah urged party leadership to enforce discipline consistently across all ranks. This is especially important as the NPP reflects and restructures after its 2024 electoral defeat.
