Deputy Minister-Designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has called for tighter gun control at traditional events following the accidental shooting of Naa Gamu, the newly enskinned Queen of the Ga-Adangme Muslim Union (Nungua West).

The incident occurred on February 26, 2025, when a musketeer mistakenly fired a live bullet, injuring her in the thigh during the enskinment ceremony.

Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Sowah stressed the need for stricter regulations to prevent such accidents, advocating for enhanced security oversight.

She suggested collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior to ensure only authorized gunpowder is used at cultural events, with police supervision to prevent the use of live ammunition.
