Frank Bekoe, the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency, has made a request. He wants the government to review and reduce electricity tariffs. This call comes after the Ghanaian Cedi appreciated in the international market.
Mr. Bekoe noted that Ghanaians have faced economic hardship. The previous depreciation of the Cedi led to higher utility tariffs. With the Cedi gaining strength, he believes it is fair to ease consumer burdens.
He expressed these views while speaking in Parliament. “A reduction in electricity tariffs would provide relief,” he said. This relief is especially needed as many face high living costs.
Mr. Bekoe argued that lowering tariffs could help businesses too. It might encourage them to lower prices on goods and services. This could stimulate broader economic activity across the country.
He emphasized that reducing tariffs shows government responsiveness to citizens' needs. It also reflects a commitment to share economic recovery benefits with the public. “The appreciation of the Cedi must translate into tangible benefits for Ghanaians,” he added.
