Supreme Court clears acting CJ Baffoe-Bonnie to oversee CJ Torkornoo removal case

The Supreme Court has overruled an objection from Lawyer Godfred Yeboah Dame. This allows Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to preside over the injunction application. The case challenges the removal process of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Dame argued that the Acting CJ should not oversee the case. He claimed that Baffoe-Bonnie could benefit personally from the ruling.

Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem Sai disagreed with this objection. He said it was based on a misconception. Sai explained that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is following the 1992 Constitution, as he is the most senior Supreme Court judge.

Sai also noted there are no constitutional limits on cases for the Acting CJ. After hearing both sides, the Supreme Court judges deliberated on their ruling. They returned and dismissed Dame’s objection, confirming Baffoe-Bonnie's authority to oversee the case.

With this objection overruled, counsel can now move forward with the injunction application. This marks a new phase in the legal battle regarding CJ Torkornoo’s removal.
