The Supreme Court has dismissed an objection from former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame. He opposed the participation of acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie in a case about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.
Mr. Dame called Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s role “unprecedented.” He argued it was improper for him to both empanel and preside over this matter. He believed this could harm public confidence in the judiciary's independence.
After a brief recess, the Supreme Court panel reconvened. They unanimously overruled Mr. Dame's objection. The justices stated that his concerns did not disqualify Justice Baffoe-Bonnie from presiding.
They assured that due judicial process would be maintained throughout the case. The panel includes Justices Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Henrietta Mensah Bonsu, Yonny Kulendi, Amadu Tanko, and Ernest Gaewu.
This ruling allows legal arguments about Chief Justice Torkornoo's controversial suspension to continue.
