The Supreme Court has granted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) more time. This includes its parliamentary candidates for Okaikwei North, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South. They can now file a response to the Electoral Commission (EC).
This case stems from a certiorari application by the NDC. They are challenging how the EC handled the 2024 election results in these areas.
Previously, the High Court in Accra ordered the EC to collate and declare results. The EC has announced results for three constituencies. Only Ablekuma North's results are still pending.
Initially, NDC candidates struggled to serve their documents to New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates. The Supreme Court intervened and allowed substituted service for proper legal procedures.
During a hearing on April 3rd, applicants’ lawyers asked for more time. They needed time to respond to the EC’s reply. However, EC lawyer Justin Amenuvor opposed this request.
He argued that the deadline had already passed. Responses were due seven days after being served. Despite this opposition, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the applicants.
They granted an extra seven days for filing their response. The case will continue once all submissions are complete.
