Supreme Court grants NDC and candidates more time to respond to EC in election case

The Supreme Court has given the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidates an extra seven days. This extension is for them to respond to the Electoral Commission (EC) about their election dispute.

The case began with a Certiorari application from the NDC and its candidates. They are challenging how the EC handled election results in four constituencies. The High Court in Accra had ordered the EC to collate and declare these results.

Since that ruling, the EC announced results for three constituencies. Only Ablekuma North's results are still pending. The legal process faced delays when the NDC struggled to serve New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidates involved in the case.

To resolve this, the Supreme Court ordered substituted service. This ensured that proceedings could continue fairly.

On Thursday, April 3, NDC lawyers asked for more time to respond to the EC’s reply. The EC’s lawyer, Justin Amenuvor, opposed this request, claiming deadlines had passed. However, the Supreme Court granted an additional seven days for filing a response.

This extension allows the NDC and its candidates more time to present their case. The dispute is an important development in Ghana's ongoing electoral processes.
