The Supreme Court will hear injunction applications on May 6, 2025. These applications challenge the petition to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo.
A panel of four justices announced this date on April 16. Justice Osei Bonsu chaired the panel. The fifth member, Justice Samuel Asiedu, was absent during the hearing.
In a previous session, former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame represented a plaintiff. He argued that the President should pause consultations with the Council of State. This pause should last until the court makes a decision.
Dame claimed that filing an injunction requires all related proceedings to stop. This is to protect the judicial process from being undermined.
Current Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine disagreed with this view. He stated that the law allows the President to fulfill his duties.
Dr. Ayine emphasized that performing constitutional duties cannot be stopped by an injunction.
This case has gained national attention for its implications on constitutional responsibilities and judicial oversight.
