Supreme Court to begin hearing injunction application against procedure to remove CJ on April 16

The Supreme Court will hear an injunction application on April 16, 2025. This case involves President John Dramani Mahama's actions regarding Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the MP for Tafo in Ashanti region, filed a lawsuit. He sued the Attorney General on March 27, 2025. He claims the President breached the Constitution by referring three petitions to remove the Chief Justice without notifying her.

The MP argues that this action violated Article 146 of the Constitution. The President did not inform or hear from the Chief Justice before escalating the matter.

Assafuah also states that forwarding the petitions without notifying her breaches her security of tenure.

On April 5, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing indefinitely. This was due to a training program involving about 50 state Attorneys.
