Suspect remanded in domestic violence case

Nii Baah Afful, a 29-year-old fisherman, has been remanded by the Gender Violence Court in Accra. He is accused of assaulting Francisca Aryee, a 21-year-old woman.

Afful will return to court on April 9, 2025. The Accra Regional Police arrested him after a video went viral. The video showed him attacking Aryee while she held her eight-month-old baby.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng confirmed the arrest in a statement. Investigations revealed that Afful and Aryee lived together with their two children.

The incident happened on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno. It followed a misunderstanding between the couple. Aryee tried to leave for her mother’s house but was pursued and assaulted.

The Police Intelligence Unit arrested Afful on March 22, 2025, at 5 PM. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

Aryee has been located and is receiving medical care and counseling.
